GoFundMe page set up for pedestrian who died in Brick car accident
Brick Township Police have named the driver and pedestrian involved in a fatal accident that took place on Herbertsville Road Monday night.
One of two men trying to cross Herbertsville Road near Havens Farm in Brick around 6:00 pm on Monday was hit by a car as he attempted to dodge traffic.
Brick Police say the two men began crossing the road to try and beat oncoming traffic.
One of the men, now identified as 51-year old John Celeste of Brick Township, fell behind and was hit by a White 2013 Volkswagen Jetta heading southbound on Herbertsville Road.
The vehicle veered off road and came to rest in a wooded area near Havens Farm.
The 26-year old driver, now identified as Jeannie Jacobs of Brick Township, and a passerby helped with CPR on Celeste until police and first aid arrived on the scene.
Celeste later succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
A Brick woman, Tabatha Ann, is organizing a GoFundMe page for the family of John Celeste and for funeral services.
"John was a wonderful father, pee pa and friend. He always touched the lives of those around him. He leaves behind his daughter Ashley Naverine Celeste and his grandson Jaelen Celeste.
John dedicated his life to trying to be the best dad and pee pa he could be. John made a impact on everyone he has met.
We are all devastated by John’s loss and were not prepared for the high cost of a funeral service. We want to give John the memorial he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes.
I am currently asking for donations to help cover the cost of John’s funeral. Also, besides the funeral trying to have enough money so Navey his daughter and Jaelen his grandson can travel home and stay for week or so to set everything up. Which funds will cover travel and stay.
Please consider donating, as any amount will truly help our family during this difficult time."
An ongoing investigation into the pedestrian-car accident is being conducted by Patrolman Thergesen and Patrolman Farnkopf of the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information pertaining to the
crash is asked to contact Brick Township Police Patrolman Thergesen at (732) 262-1140.
