GIRLS BASKETBALL: PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Player of the Year

Madison St. Rose,  Sr., St. John Vianney

What more can you say about the 5’10 guard who will leave as one of the most decorated players in Shore Conference history? The Princeton University-bound standout earlier this month was named the Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year and she’ll need more space for other awards to follow.  Her numbers speak for themselves as she led the Lady Lancers in scoring (22ppg) and rebounding (5.1ppg) while finishing second in assists and steals.

What makes St. Rose so special though is her ability to make her teammates better, which she does each and every game in an almost effortless manner.  She doesn’t run but rather glides on the court and is so smooth that you almost take her game for granted.

Her four-year career at SJV saw her score 1,747 points and grab 458 rebounds - and remember, she lost at least half her junior year to a pandemic-shortened season and missed other opportunities when post-season tournaments were cancelled.  The Lady Lancers went 97-6 with her on the court, which included two official Shore Conference Tournament titles, two NJSIAA Non-Public A championships and the final Tournament of Champions crown last week.  In her final high school game, St. Rose scored 21 points and added 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals in a 20-point win over Rutgers Prep.

Now she takes her game and 4+ GPA to Princeton and you can expect she’ll make an impact on and off the court.
