Four Bronx residents arrested for trying to pull scam on Marlboro resident

Four residents from the Bronx, New York tried pulling a fast one on an elderly woman from Morganville, but she outsmarted them.

Marlboro Police spoke to a 77-year old resident on Tuesday who told them she got a call from someone she didn't know who told her that her grandson had been arrested and needed bail money in order to be released.

The caller on the other end said he would be at her residence to pick up the money and told her not to tell anyone about her grandson's arrest.

She then called her grandson to double check and make sure he hadn't been arrested and in need of bail money and that was the case.

The woman then went to the police station to report the scam.

When the caller and three other suspects showed up at the victim’s residence to retrieve the money, they were all arrested without incident.

All four were processed and released on a summons.

"The Marlboro Township Police Department would like to remind all residents, especially our senior citizen community, to be vigilant and skeptical of scams of this nature. If you do receive a call that you believe to be a scam, please contact your local police department immediately."
