Fentanyl comes out of the Devil's stash of poison, lethal in many cases especially when mixed in with other drugs.

In fact, the DEA states that it's 80-100 times more powerful than morphine.

For distributing such a dangerous drug, a Paterson man will head to prison for 45-months.

Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig announced Thursday that Tawan Grier, a/k/a “TJ,” 22, was sentenced following a previously entered guilty plea to an information charging him with knowingly and intentionally distributing fentanyl.

She also said that Grier is an associate of the '230 Boys street gang', "which operates primarily around Rosa Parks Boulevard and Godwin Avenue in Paterson."

Fentanyl is one of the drugs the 230 Boys Street Gang has an affection for with another Paterson man, in this gang, being indicted in December of 2020 for possession to distribute 100 grams of heroin and 40 grams of fentanyl.

The 2020 indictment of Dashion Kelson, 40, follows 16 other members of the gang charged by complain in October of 2019.

As for Grier, Attorney Honig said that "through numerous controlled purchases of narcotics, consensually recorded telephone calls and text messages, physical surveillance, and the analysis of telephone call detail records, law enforcement officers determined that from September 2018 through Oct. 1, 2019, Grier and other members and associates of the 230 Boys distributed narcotics, including heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine base."

In addition to his nearly 4-years in prison, Grier has been sentenced to three years of supervised release.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francesca Liquori, of the Organized Crime and Gangs Unit.

Defense counsel: David B. Glazer Esq., Livingston, New Jersey.
