The next round of road work and bridge repairs at the Jersey Shore will take place on Route 35 in Brielle beginning this weekend.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation has announced lane closures and a traffic shift as the Route 35 Bridge over Ashley Avenue replacement project resumes in Brielle at 11:00 pm on Friday evening and continuing until 6:00 am on Sunday morning.

NJDOT’s contractor Ritacco Construction, Inc., will close the left lane in each direction on the bridge to set up a traffic shift to allow for demolition and reconstruction of the southbound bridge deck.

By Sunday morning, the DOT says that the southbound side of the bridge will be closed with one lane of traffic maintained in each direction on the northbound side of the bridge.

This configuration will remain in place through the end of the project, which is estimated to be complete by spring of 2020.

The northbound side of the bridge was closed for reconstruction in September 2018.

It was completed and reopened in May 2019.

The $6.8-million dollar federally-funded project is replacing the girders, deck, parapets, sidewalk, and other improvements to the superstructure, substructure, lighting, and approaches to the bridge.

The project is designed in stages to minimize impacts to traffic.

This project announcement comes in the same week as work on Route 34 in Wall and Route 37 in Toms River.
