Miguel Angel-Villegas, 31, of New Haven, Connecticut, was sentenced to fourteen years following a previously entered guilty plea to Attempted Murder.

This sentence will be subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act, meaning Angel-Villegas must serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence before he may be considered for parole eligibility.

Angel-Villegas has also been sentenced to five years in NJSP following a previously entered guilty plea to Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution after he took off following the shooting incident that was proceeded by a traffic stop where he ordered his then girlfriend to drive off.

His sentences will run concurrently.

Following the shooting incident in November 2019, Angel-Villegas fled on foot then stole a tricycle and then caught a Lyft ride to New York City where he was arrested.

He's been in the Ocean County Jail since being returned to New Jersey.

Prosecutor Billhimer said that Chief Trial Attorney Michael Weatherstone and Assistant Prosecutor Victoria Veni handled the case on behalf of the State.
