Burglar breaks into Jackson home, has something to eat and then leaves

Jackson Police arrested a man with a hankering for some leftovers taken from a refrigerator that wasn't his on Sunday morning around 5:30 am.

The man who lived in the home on Danbury Court in the Four Seasons at Metedeconk Development on Harmony Road was woken up by his barking dog.

When he left the bedroom he saw the lights were on and the front window was broken.

Police say the intruder broke in, ate some food from the refrigerator and then left through the window be broke to get into the home.

There was no other property reported stolen but police said that both of the victim’s vehicles parked outside the home had been entered.

A K-9 from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department responded to attempt to track the suspect but he was not located.

Officers canvassing the neighborhood located several mailboxes which had been opened and also observed video from other resident’s home security systems with the possible suspect.

Police also learned that entry had been attempted at the community’s clubhouse.

Officers responded to the report of a suspicious person around 2:00 pm when it was reported that a male had been observed laying on the ground near a utility pole on Harmony Road.

Officers recognized the male to fit the description of the suspect involved in the earlier incident and he was transported to headquarters.

Detectives responded to interview the man and he was later charged with the incident.

Joseph DeRenzo, 46, of Jackson, was charged with 3 counts of burglary and 1 count of attempted burglary.

He was processed and lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
