Manchester Police are investigating an accident that occurred on Route 37 and Commonwealth Boulevard Saturday night around 6:30 pm that sent the driver of an ATV to the hospital.

Police say that a red 2004 Pontiac Grand Am was turning left onto Route 37 from Commonwealth Boulevard when a Yamaha Raptor 350 ATV entered the highway from a wooded area right into the lane of travel causing a collision.

The driver of the Pontiac, Timothy Riggs, 39, and his front seat passenger, Tonya Smith, 37, both of Toms River, were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision, police said,  and were both uninjured.

The operator of the ATV, Tyler Moran, 18, of Toms River, was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

He sustained a severe injury to his left leg and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River following the collision.

This crash is being investigated by Manchester Police Patrolman Michael O'Hara of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
