A series of earthquakes have devastated Puerto Rico over the last month, leaving many dogs without homes. Forty dogs are making a 2,000 mile flight from PR to NJ, and are looking for a new forever home.

Some of the dogs are coming from families who have lost everything and had to made the difficult decision to give up their pet - others are coming from Puerto Rico's large stray population and lost whatever shelter they had been able to find.

The dogs are first being placed in local shelters for checkups, and should be available for adoption in about a week.

Even if you can't bring a new dog into your home, donations are welcome. It takes about $1,500 to bring a dog from Puerto Rico to New Jersey, and the Sato Project and Wings of Rescue are taking donations.
