When I lived in Pennsylvania, one of the towns I lived in for years was a little place called Phoenixville.

It was an old steel town that was way past its heyday and was considered a not-so-great place to live when I moved in, that's why rent was so cheap.

Fast forward five or so years and all of a sudden everyone in the area wanted to live in Phoenixville, out of nowhere it popped up as one of the best up-and-coming towns in the Keystone State.

I miss living there every day, but being able to walk to the beach from my house in Jersey is a fair trade in my book.

Apparently, there's a town in Jersey that's on a similar path, it's on the radar as Jersey's next up-and-coming little town but if you ask me it's probably too late to get in on the ground floor.

Located literally across the water from downtown Manhatten and sitting right on the water's edge, Edgewater New Jersey is considered by travel experts as Jersey's next up-and-coming town.

Only In Your State claims that part of what makes it Jersey's next up-and-coming place to live and visit is its easy access to downtown New York City, as well as all of the great restaurants and bars with great views of the city.

Now, when I think of up-and-coming, I think of a place that's relatively affordable and a great place to get in on the ground floor before it becomes discovered by the general population and now everyone wants to live there.

It seems like Edgewater is already up and running; it has a sprawling and vibrant restaurant scene, and lots of community activities, and yes, the rent is well over $2,500 a month for an apartment.

If you want to visit Edgewater for the day though there's no shortage of great places to eat and things to do.

Jersey is also home to tons of great small towns.
