Trenton Thunder Bat-Dog Passes Away

The Trenton Thunder, minor league affiliate of the Yankees, are known for using a golden retriever rather than the usual batboy.

A golden named Chase was the bat-dog for the Thunder from 2002 through 2012. His son Derby debuted in 2008. The lineage has continued as Derby's son Rookie started picking up bats in 2016.

Sadly, the team took to Instagram to share the news of the passing of Derby; just weeks short of his 10th birthday, cancer took Derby's life.

The team will pay tribute to Derby on his birthday, January 26th. Fans are asked to share their favorite memories, photos and videos with the Thunder via social media.
