Would you love to own Tom Petty's 1996 Jaguar XJS convertible but don't have the bucks?

No need to fret, it's already been sold.

The winning bid was $40,900.

Apparently, Tom believes in giving as well as receiving gifts for his birthday, which he just celebrated on Saturday (he was born October 20, 1950 in Gainesville, Florida).

"My favorite car I ever owned" was sold on eBay yesterday to benefit Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF).

The Nobel Peace Prize winning charity provides assistance to people threatened by violence, neglect or catastrophe in over 60 countries.

Also, this Wednesday, Petty Fest returns to NYC, a night when many artists congregate to celebrate Tom Petty's music. All ticket proceeds will go to Sweet Relief Musicians Fund and The Musicians Cancer Fund.

Oh, and Tom says on his website:

Really touched by all of the birthday wishes.
We have the greatest fans there are.
Lots of love,
TP

Lots of love right back at ya, Tom!
