Three Monmouth County residents are among 47 charged following a massive drug operation conducted by the Essex County Prosecutors Office.

Investigators executed search warrants in Newark, Kearny and Harrison as well as in Monmouth and Ocean Counties where they collectively confiscated about 23,000 grams of marijuana and two kilos of cocaine worth a combined estimated street value of $1.1-million dollars.

In addition to the weed and white powder, police seized seven guns including a .223 assault rifle and 12-gauge shotgun, nearly $300,000 in U.S. Currency, 62 oxycodone pills with a street value of $1,550 and three Xanax pills with a street value of $30.00.

The dealers allegedly delivered to the accused buyers in Newark in what prosecutors described as a "retail business on wheels" where if someone ordered drugs, those narcotics would be delivered to them.

The "Operation Short Storm" raids led to the arrests of 31 people with another 16 people still on the run.

Investigators also seized 12 vehicles including two Mercedes Benz 550 Sedans as well as jewelry, including apparent Rolex, Brietling and Gucci watches.

“These distributors operated in a way that made them feel they were immune from detection. The methods employed were designed to avoid attracting the attention of law enforcement. The distributors used non-descript vehicles. Having a well-established customer base gave the drug dealers a false sense of comfort,’’ Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens said. “They thought they could sell narcotics with impunity.”
