It's been a years long fight by school districts across New Jersey, including here in Ocean and Monmouth Counties, to get back the state aid stripped away under the guidelines of the S2 School Funding Formula.
While the fight continues for districts losing millions in state aid to get that money back from the state, a trio of New Jersey Legislators have come up with a plan to prevent any cuts, at least for the 2021-22 school year.
The approach some of the lawmakers in Trenton came up with is known as the S2 School Funding Formula, which helps the underfunded districts but also takes money away from districts said to be overfunded.
The Toms River Education Foundation, a non-profit started up by Councilman Terrance Turnbach in Toms River, is donating $10,000 to the Toms River Regional School District to help them purchase team uniforms at each of the three high schools.
The fight for fairness, funding and transparency continues and enters a new phase as 10th District (Ocean County) Lawmakers have developed a plan to protect Jersey Shore school districts being cut state aid.
