Newark, NJ schools are offering $92,000 to retired teachers for them to return to the classroom to fill a teacher shortage for the 2022-2023 school year.
Senior athlete, Aaron Van Trease of St. John Vianney High School was injured — while in a separate game, Marlboro High School's quarterback suffered a knee injury. Both were just days after the death of 16-year-old football player, Xavier McClain of Linden.
Of the 297 schools chosen nationwide from a pool of up to 420 applicants, nine New Jersey schools in eight different counties in the Garden State were recognized as "exemplary high-performing schools."
Months of controversy over the state's updated education standards, which include sex ed and gender identity goals, led to a 4-4 vote by the Warren Township Board of Education.
It's not only a challenge to keep people in the profession; there's an obvious shortfall in the number of wannabe educators coming through the pipeline.
"A lot of schools are competing for the same seemingly limited pool of candidates," Sal Randazzo, coordinator of communications for the Deptford Township School District, told New Jersey 101.5.
