The late Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee discussed that and many other career points in Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul, a new documentary in theaters today.

Derek Trucks tells UCR how things like the classic 'Mad Dogs & Englishmen' film and also, his own bloodline connections to the Allman Brothers Band inspired his own work.

He also worked with Styx, Deep Purple, Bon Jovi, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many other legendary acts.

The late Allman Brothers Band guitarist opened an important door.

"I consider it an honor to have crossed musical paths with him," said the Doobie Brothers' Michael McDonald.

With its unprecedented third set, this became one of their longest-ever concerts.
