New Jersey State Police were at Brick Township Public Works to assist township police and detonate an explosive found at a vacant home Friday morning.

Brick Police now report officers responded to a vacant home on Island Court after getting a report town inspectors found a firework tube with black powder inside around 8:30 am.

Inspectors described it as "a cylindrically shaped cardboard firework, similar to a paper towel roll."

The NJ State Police Bomb squad was contacted and responded and took possession of the firework and transported it to the Police range where it was ignited.

Brick Police say the public was never in any danger during this incident.

A nixle alert reported police activity at 10:39 am and that a brief loud noise was expected and the explosive was being tended to at the Public Works site.
