Stanley Cup, van Riemsdyk in Middletown Thursday

The most storied trophy in sports, the Stanley Cup, pays a visit to Middletown on Thursday afternoon, courtesy of native son Trevor van Riemsdyk, defenseman for the champion Chicago Blackhawks.

It's the hockey fan's equivalent of the Holy Grail, the Golden Fleece and the Hope Diamond. The pomp and circumstance that surrounds Lord Stanley's sterling silver award is as fascinating as its journey through time, and the legendary names etched all along its circumference.
