Route 34 is a mess; 16 Utility Poles Down, NJDOT says

After heavy wind and rain battered the Jersey Shore, towns are scrambling to recover before the start of the new work week.

Monmouth County was one of the hardest-hit counties in the state recording winds up to 80 miles per hour. 

In Wall Township, Route 34 remains closed this weekend for emergency repairs after 16 utility polls, and two traffic signals came down in the storm, according to the New Jersey Department of Traffic. 

If your weekend plans take you through that area, you will be detoured. 

Northbound Drivers:

• Will be directed to take the ramp to I-195 west. 
• Take Exit 31B to CR 524 and Main Street. 
• Turn Right onto Belmar Boulevard. 
• Turn Left onto Route 34 northbound.

Southbound Drivers: 

• Will be redirected to turn right onto Belmar Boulevard. 
• Turn left onto CR 524 and Main Street. 
• .Take the ramp to I-195 east via Shore Points.
• Take Exit 35A to Route 34 south via Garden State Parkway.

Because of extensive damage during the storm, portions of the roads need to be milled and paved. 

The New Jersey Department of Traffic has not specified how long the repairs will take or when Route 34 will be reopened.
