I wish I liked to cook. I don't. I've tried...if I have a way out of it I take it. If you're like me and your family will let you get away with it, there ARE restaurants open in New Jersey on Thanksgiving.  I came across this list from one of my go to favorite sources, mommypoppins.com and I pulled out the ones in our "yeah, I'm willing to drive that far" area...

Want to skip the cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year?  I got your back!  My mother-in-law (pictured above) has been encouraging me to love cooking for a long time. I do it when I have to but if there is an option for relaxing and enjoying the holiday instead of slaving away over a hot stove I'll take that every single time.   From dine in-to take out you've got options so you can relax and avoid that clean up too!

Here are some Jersey restaurants that are open on Turkey Day:

Fernando's Grill – Hightstown

Fernando's Grille has a Thanksgiving takeout for two that comes with turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, salad, soup, and dessert priced at $52.  They have a kids' menu too...they get chicken fingers, pasta and meatballs, or grilled chicken with mac-and-cheese for $12. Call 609-443-4488 to get on their list!

Farm-to-table is all the rage and you can enjoy a fresh three-course meal from 12-5pm and costs $105 per person. Reserve your table on their website.

Olde Mill Inn and Grain House Restaurant – Basking Ridge

You have two options here.  You can get a four-course sit-down dinner ($64 for adults; $25 for kids) OR a to-go menu (packages start at $159.99). For reservations or takeout orders, call 908-696-2335 mmmmm......

Rat's Restaurant – Hamilton

Here you can get a  five-course fixed menu prepared with ingredients from local farms for $68 per person. A kids' menu is available for kids 12 and under. For reservations just call 609-584-7800.

Gladstone Tavern – Gladstone

This is such a warm and cozy spot with lots of history. In face you'll dine in a 19th-century farmhouse. Packages start at $200 for dinner for four and come with turkey and all the side dishes and even desert. Order online or call 908-234-9055 by November 17.

Salt Creek Grille – Rumson

Who doesn't love an all-you-can-eat traditional roast turkey dinner for the big day? Served from noon-6:30pm, it is just $36 for adults; $15 for kids 12 and under. For reservations  call 732-933-9272.

Bahrs Landing – Highlands

This place is so much more than seafood!  It will keep you out of the kitchen and clean up duty by serving a beautiful turkey dinner with all the trimmings including stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.  Yes, extra pumpkin pie please.  You can also order off the regular full menu, including lobster if you want to go rouge! Thanksgiving platters to go (starting at $65 for 2) must be ordered by Monday, November 22. Call 732-872-1245.

Colts Neck Inn – Colts Neck

It it's good enough for The Boss it is good enough for us!  Colts Neck sounds lovely this time of year and The Colts Neck Inn offers a family-style dinner for six with a whole turkey carved tableside, plus all the trimmings you could want for $225. Kids 10 and under can choose between chicken parm, penne marinara, or turkey dinner for $20.95 (I love the choices). Call 732-462-0383.

Riverwinds Restaurant – West Deptford

Riverwinds will keep your options open. In addition to a Thanksgiving turkey dinner option, you can also select salmon, ham, or filet mignon.  Yum...sign me up for the filet mignon! Kids can also choose between turkey, ham, pasta, and chicken fingers.  Plus this comes with salad and dessert! The cost is $40.95 for adults and $21.95 for kids. Call 856-579-7900 for reservations. The same menu can be ordered for takeout as well.

The Serenity Cafe – Toms River

This one would work great if you want to pass it off as your own hard work.  Bring the food home and just heat and eat!—order from Serenity Cafe. Starting at $159 for four people, they include soup, salad, turkey, trimmings, and beautiful dessert choices from pies and apple crisp to chocolate souffle cake (OK the chocolate souffle will be a tougher sell to pass off as you own but I say go for it!).
