A police dog who was on the scene of an active shooter investigation this afternoon in Mantoloking was injured and is currently receiving treatment for those injuries, but the dog was NOT shot, Ocean County Sheriff Mike Mastronardy tells WOBM News.

Mastronardy immediately dispelled the outside reports of the K9 dog being shot during the investigation which began around 2:00 pm on Monday.

An Ocean County Sheriff's Officer was also looked at by medical personnel for an undisclosed injury.

Mastronardy said further information regarding this afternoon's reported police involved shooting investigation would be released by the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.

A request for comment on the investigation has not yet been returned by the Ocean County Prosecutors Office to WOBM News.

News 12 New Jersey has reported a shooting took place on Route 35 in Mantoloking on Barnegat Lane and that a suspect was in custody.

The Asbury Park Press is reporting that the dog was taken to the Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls for treatment.

Mantoloking Police were brief on any detail this afternoon, only posting a status on Facebook that a road was being closed.
