I was born and raised in Staten Island, and I have great memories from growing up there. I saw this and so do thousands of other Jersey Shore residents. In some ways, our area is Staten Island south. Pete Davidson, the SNL: star and recent Kim Kardashian love interest performed "Walkin' In Staten Island.

As I listened, I braced myself for the pain. I thought he would come down hard on my (and his) hometown. But as it turned out, most of the stuff he joked about is, let's face it, is pretty funny.  And I've heard lots of Staten Island residents make the same jokes. The full video of the sketch is below.

If you're from Staten Island, it's not news to you that you can see the dump from space, or that we have a lot of bagel and pizza places. And anyone who grew up in Staten Island has owned at least one gold chain, and probably more.

A lot of the stuff was actually pretty funny, although I certainly could have done without the police line or the dead body in the water line.  But it's SNL and they always try to be edgy. And the whole thing is done to Marc Cohn's tune Walkin' in Memphis, and he appears in the parody.

And yes I used to drive by the dump every day, and yes I used to eat bagels and pizza every day, but, no, I don't think the Zoo is small. At least I didn't as a kid. But there are a couple of things I do know about the most under-rated borough and my hometown. It was a great place to grow up, and people from Staten Island have a good sense of humor, so for the most part, they'll get a kick out of this.
