Pedestrian hit by car in Toms River was likely drunk, police say
TOMS RIVER — An elderly Lakewood Township man struck a Toms River man who was likely under the influence of alcohol and was wearing dark clothes, according to the Toms River Police Department.
Mihai Pasnicu, 72 of Lakewood, was driving his vehicle southbound on Route 9 near the intersection of Clover Road when he struck Eric Sexton, 52 of Toms River, who was crossing the intersection around 9:04 pm on Monday.
Officers determined that Pasnicu was not driving while impaired or using his cell phone while driving and was not slapped with any initial charges as a result.
Sexton was unresponsive at the scene and transported via Hatzolah EMS to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
The investigation is ongoing at this time, but police say that Sexton may have charges pending against him.
Police did not disclose Sexton's condition in their preliminary statements.
