One Of The Best Ice Cream Sandwiches in America Is In Red Bank

This past Sunday was National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. While it does seem like every day is a National Something Day, if there's an excuse to celebrate and binge on some ice cream, I'm gonna take it!

Buzzfeed compiled the list of the best Ice Cream Sandwiches across the entire country based on their Yelp rankings.

There are plenty of different varieties from the different ice cream shops, including ice cream sandwiches that use "buns" made of cookies, cake, cannolis, brioche rolls, waffles, and even funnel cake.

Coming in at #9 in the entire United States was the Creamy Bun from Luigi's Ice Cream in Red Bank! "There's only one main attraction at this Jersey mainstay: A scoop of your favorite ice cream flavor stuffed between a glazed doughnut bun."

According to my coworker Liz, Luigi's actually started five years ago as a food truck. They grew to two trucks, and eventually set up a brick and mortar location on Broad Street in Red Bank.

Right now, Luigi's is doing something AWESOME - they've partnered with JFK Medical Center to serve nurses ice cream! You can make a donation right now, with 100% of proceeds going to serving over three hundred nurses. Luigi's hopes to raise enough money to basically keep a constant supply of ice cream delivered to nurses during their shifts. A donation of $5 will serve 2 nurses ice cream cups, $10 will serve 4 nurses, $25 will serve 10 nurses, $50 will serve 20 nurses, and $100 will serve 40 nurses. It's a great gesture from Luigi's and a great way to put a smile on the faces of the people who are working on the front line during this pandemic.
