A couple days ago I told you about the new regulations at the Manasquan Dog Beach. I sent a complaint to the MCPS, and here's the response I got:

In case that's a bit small for you to read, here's the full text:

Dear Mr. Varacchi,
Your email has been brought the Superintendent of the Monmouth County Parks for response which is as follows…
Fisherman’s Cove Conservation Area has developed into a popular area for a variety of uses.  The Monmouth County Park System has continued to improve the area so that visitors may enjoy all that it offers.  Kayaking, fishing, bird watching, hiking and beach activities are popular among visitors.  The development of Fisherman’s Cove Conservation Area also presents opportunity to provide programming that relates to the environment.  In an effort to avoid conflicts and provide opportunity, times have been established through the busy summer months so that visitors may choose the time of day that they visit and experience their activity of choice. Visitors with dogs are permitted to use the park within the hours and areas that have been established.
Please remember that all dogs/pets must be on a leash and under control when visiting Fisherman’s Cove Conservation Area.

So...thanks for your non-response?  My initial message said I was disappointed by the new rules, and hoped they would reconsider.  Their reply is basically just restating what I was complaining about in the first place.

The thing I really don't understand is the reasoning behind the new rules. They say they want everyone to enjoy the beach equally, but how is restricting access a form of equality?  I've been taking my dogs to this beach for years, and have never once seen a conflict between a dog owner and a kayaker, or between a dog owner and a fisherman or bird watcher.

The people who started this petition have gathered over 3,000 signatures, and also planned a peaceful protest for this Sunday, May 24th at 12:30.
