Turtle Back Zoo has officially opened the Sea Turtle Recovery center.

Last Friday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at a new building on the zoo's property. The center had been in operation since the end of December, and has already treated 11 turtles that were suffering from respiratory infections and other ailments. The facility is run by an independent non-profit group, with the aims to rehabilitate and release the turtles back into the wild.

The recovery is open to the public, so visitors can stop in to see the recuperating turtles.

I grew up on the mean streets of Irvington, so Turtle Back Zoo was only about 15 minutes away. It's been a long time since I've visited, but it'll be fun to bring my daughter, because who doesn't love turtles?
