New Jersey’s Best Marvel Superheroes
The fictional map of the Marvel Comic Universe has some overlap with the real world. Steve Rogers was just a kid from Brooklyn before becoming Captain America; Peter Parker grew up in Queens. New York is a central hub, but there are plenty of Marvel connections to New Jersey.
The Wasp, aka Janet van Dyne, was born in Cresskill, NJ (which is where Vision & Scarlet Witch decided to live when they wanted to raise a family).
Jersey City is home of Kamala Khan, better known as the latest Ms. Marvel. Khan was also Marvel's first Muslim character to headline her own comic book.
Iron Man has two connections to NJ: his bodyguard Happy Hogan and his assistant/girlfriend/wife/replacement Pepper Potts are listed as New Jerseyians.
There are a few lesser-known characters like The B-Sides, the Demon of the Dark, Phantom Blonde AND Blonde Phantom.
Lee himself was born in Manhattan in 1922, so it makes sense that he would create characters that spent time where he spent time - they always say to write what you know.
Stan Lee was an innovator and an amazing creative force, and his influence will be felt for a long time across comic books and movies.
