NEW AUDITIONS: Is The Next American Idol Champion From New Jersey?
Has it really been 20 years since Kelly Clarkson sang about her “Moment” and won on American Idol? The singing competition debuted on FOX on June 11, 2002, and continued for 15 seasons. After a break, the reality show returned to the airwaves on the ABC Network, March 11, 2018.
This could be your year, as auditions are taking place in New Jersey this weekend.
Not only did we watch unknowns compete to become the first (and subsequent American Idols), but we were also introduced to unknown co-hosts Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunkleman, who later left the show.
Plus, a panel of judges that included 80’s Pop Star Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and an opinionated man who we loved to hate, Simon Cowell. The panels of judges changed frequently over the years too.
Through the years, many auditions were also unsuccessful and many “Idols” were crowned, as the many sets of judges graded each singer’s performance. Auditions are set up way in advance of the “Live” shows.
Part of the allure to Idol is watching contestants' journey rising up the ranks.
There have been many Idol contenders from New Jersey. A few come to mind; Jax (East Brunswick), Anwar Robinson (East Orange), Mara Justine (Galloway Township), Gianna Isabella (Jackson), Samantha Sharpe (Baskin Ridge), and Jermaine Jones (Pine Hill).
