Maybe We Should Get Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader to Host the Golden Globes Next Year
Besides a funny opening monologue, the 2015 Golden Globes were kinda...boring? Which is weird, because the Golden Globes are supposed to be a lot of things, but boring isn't one of them. Their entire existence is pretty much to be the boozy, irreverent cousin to the Oscars. But, next year hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler won't be back to host (their three-year contract ended this year) and based on this awards presentation, we think they should give Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader a chance.
Wiig and Hader were there to present the award for Best Screenplay and recalled some of the famous lines from Hollywood movies (of course, completely screwing up all of them). It included Hader's great Arnold Schwarzenegger impression and Wiig's horrible Robert De Niro impression.
Now, this isn't the funniest bit. Anyone else delivering these lines would've died a slow death up there. But, it's the natural chemistry between Wiig and Hader that just pulls this through. It's not always funny, but it's always fun.
Whoever tries to replace Tina and Amy is going to have some really big shoes to fill. Those two had a great run the past three years (even Meryl Streep took time out on stage to say she'll miss them next year, to big applause from the audience) and have done consistently great work at the Golden Globes (last night's painful Margaret Cho recurring bit not withstanding). What's important to take away from the Tina and Amy shows was the hosting dynamic. Their pairing worked because they're both a) really funny and b) really good friends. That's a similar dynamic that could work for both Wiig and Hader, who worked together for years at ‘SNL’ and starred earlier this year in ‘The Skeleton Twins’.
Take a look at the video above, and let us know what you think. If not Wiig and Hader, who could possibly replace Tina and Amy? (Oh, who are we kidding—it's NBC!—of course it will be Jimmy Fallon...)
