The Covid-19 coronavirus has now affected Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst as officials confirm the first positive case.

A dependent of a service member assigned to the joint base is currently undergoing evaluation and treatment following a positive novel coronavirus test.

They are in isolation at an off-base residence.

Medical officials are currently performing contact tracing.

“Right now we have one confirmed case of COVID-19,” Col Bridget Gigliotti, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst commander, said. “The safety of our service members, families and employees is our top priority. We will continue to work with our interagency partners to ensure we do everything we can to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 and ensure everyone has the most up-to-date information on appropriate measures to prevent the potential spread of the virus.”

The current Health Protection Condition level for JB MDL is "Bravo" which officials on base say is to reflect the moderate disease threat posed by COVID-19 and the risk of exposure to personnel.

The base also recently announced a Public Health Emergency in line with county and state declarations.

Personnel are asked to avoid handshaking, wipe common-use items, avoid risk areas and self-isolate as needed.

"We encourage all joint base personnel and families to stay informed on COVID-19 with updates from the CDC and base-level communications methods, including the base mobile app "JBMDL" COVID-19 section, official website and social media pages," Col Bridget Gigliotti said.
