Man Accused of 'Severely injuring' His Infant Daughter Back in NJ

A man from Monmouth County who is accused of severely injuring his own infant daughter during a domestic violence incident last month has been extradited back to New Jersey from Ohio and is now facing more charges.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office says 20-year-old Byron M. Jovel-Barquero of Long Branch has been charged with second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and simple assault.

According to authorities, an investigation determined that Jovel-Barquero physically assaulted his ex-girlfriend at her home and a 4-month-old child, who sustained serious injuries and had to be hospitalized.

About two weeks later, on Wednesday, September 6th, members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Jovel-Barquero without incident at a home in Toledo, OH.

Last week, he was extradited back to New Jersey and is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending future court proceedings.

The State has filed a motion to keep him detained as the case against him proceeds.
