Additional charges have been filed against a Philadelphia man who crossed the center line while driving on Route 539 in Lacey Township on Sunday evening, causing a serious head-on crash.

Philadelphia Man Now Faces Weapons Charges After Lacey Crash

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Thursday that Jared Beswick, 27, of Philadelphia, is now facing weapons charges after two loaded handguns, three high-capacity ammunition magazines, and hollow-point ammunition were found in his vehicle.

Authorities had already announced that police found open containers of alcohol and pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes in his Ford Explorer and that Beswick showed obvious signs of being impaired at the accident scene.

Sunday's Head-On Crash

The Lacey Township Police responded to the crash at mile marker 16.5 at about 8:45 pm on Sunday, Sept. 13. Beswick's vehicle was traveling north when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Toyota RAV4 traveling in the southbound lane.

The driver of the Toyota RAV4 and a passenger in Beswick's Ford Explorer were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where they are listed in serious but stable condition.

Beswick was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin, where his blood was drawn after police obtained a court-authorized warrant.

Jared Beswick was charged at the hospital with two counts of assault by auto. He will be transferred to the Ocean County Jail after he's released from the hospital.

Now he will also face those serious weapons charges after making some bad choices on Sunday night. The crash is still under investigation.
