The Yankees sent the Boston Red Sox home Wednesday night with a convincing 9-2 victory at Yankee Stadium, sweeping Boston in the American League Wild Card Series. And I have to say, there’s something extra special about knocking out the Red Sox in October!

The Yankees came into the night with a chance to finish the job, and they certainly did it.

Max Fried was outstanding on the mound, giving the Yankees six strong innings while allowing just one run and striking out six. After Boston briefly cut the lead to 2-1, the Yankees bats came alive in the sixth inning.

Yanks had a big sixth inning! The Yankees scored six runs, with Cody Bellinger putting the big exclamation point on the inning with a three-run homer.

Bellinger finished the night with four RBIs. Luis García Jr. also had a big night, collecting three hits and hitting a home run.

This was a total team effort. Every Yankee starter had at least one hit, and the Yankees finished with 14 hits.

And let’s not forget the bigger picture. The Yankees scored 18 runs in the two-game series while holding Boston to just two runs. That’s quite a way to take care of your biggest rival when the games matter most.

As a Yankee fan, I love seeing the Bronx rocking in October. There’s just something different about playoff baseball at Yankee Stadium, especially when Boston is standing on the other side.

Now Boston is going home, and the Yankees are moving on to the American League Division Series against Tampa Bay.
