New Jersey’s Favorite Boardwalk Food Might Surprise You
For me, the perfect boardwalk lineup starts with a few hours on the beach, followed by a giant slice of boardwalk pepperoni pizza loaded with salt and crushed red pepper, a chocolate/vanilla twist with chocolate sprinkles from Kohr's Frozen Custard, and then walking it all off on the boards.
Honestly, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Boardwalk pizza is one of those foods I wait for all year long. Sure, I could grab it in the offseason, but it just tastes better in the summer with sandy feet and ocean air.
The Boardwalk Foods I Crave Every Summer
My personal boardwalk favorites?
- Mushroom pizza
- Chocolate/vanilla twist with chocolate sprinkles from Kohr’s
- Fresh squeezed lemonade
- Fried Oreos
I took to Facebook to ask what your favorite boardwalk food is, and I’ll admit, I was a little surprised by the number one answer.
Locals Pick Their Favorite Boardwalk Foods
Apparently, nothing beats a sausage, peppers, and onions sandwich on the boardwalk. And honestly? I get it. My husband would absolutely say this is his favorite!
A bunch of people shouted out Midway in Seaside Heights as their go-to spot for one.
Pizza Still Rules The Jersey Shore
Pizza came in as another huge favorite, which wasn’t shocking at all. There’s just something about those oversized boardwalk slices that makes them taste better than regular pizza. Maybe it’s the grease. Maybe it’s the sea breeze. Maybe it’s both.
Fried Boardwalk Desserts Got Plenty Of Love
The fried dessert lovers definitely showed up too. Funnel cake, fried Oreos, and zeppole's all got plenty of love in the comments.
Midway also picked up votes for their cheesesteaks, proving people are loyal to their boardwalk staples.

Other favorites that made the list included waffle ice cream sandwiches, fries with vinegar, and the classic orange/vanilla twist from Kohr’s.
Now I’m curious… what’s the one boardwalk food you absolutely have to get every summer?
