Jersey Shore Travelers Could Soon Pay More To Cross This Popular Bridge
If you've ever traveled to Margate, chances are you've crossed the Downbeach Express. This well-known route connects the Downbeach communities to the mainland by way of several bridges and a causeway that stretches across the bays and marshes.

The roadway has been around since 1929 and has helped generations of locals, vacationers, and Shore visitors make their way to and from the island. Even today, it's an important gateway to the Jersey Shore and one of the few privately owned toll roads still operating in New Jersey.
The Downbeach Express is a busy road, especially during the summer. About 14,000 vehicles travel it on a typical summer day, with more than 13,000 cars using the route daily on average. That's a lot of people heading to and from the local communities.
Are Tolls Going Up On The Downbeach Express Bridge In Margate, New Jersey?
According to Patch, "Drivers taking the Downbeach Express this summer will see an increase in their tolls. Formerly known as the Margate Bridge and Causeway, Class 1 Express Pass holders will pay $2.00 per crossing (a 15-cent increase), and Class 1 Cash patrons will pay $3.00 (a 50-cent increase) starting June 16."
According to reports, "every dollar of toll revenue is reinvested directly into the four historic bridges and two-mile causeway connecting Margate, Ventnor, Longport, and Egg Harbor Township."
We will see traffic here at the Shore continue to build as school gets out for summer and folks start heading to the beach. Drive carefully and enjoy your summer here at the Jersey Shore.
