Manchester 3, Jackson Liberty 3 (Darkness)

Junior Jack Kanis hit a game-tying RBI double with one out in the bottom of the 11th and after the third out of the inning the game was called due to darkness.

Junior Evan Palmer highlighted a two-run sixth inning for Manchester with an RBI double, which broke a scoreless deadlock.

Sophomore Mike Kisseberth then doubled and scored on an RBI single by freshman Carney O'Donnell to get Jackson Liberty on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Kissebeth then came through with a two-out, game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

Kisseberth cruised for the first 2 2/3 innings of his relief appearance before mounted a go-ahead rally. A leadoff error started the threat and a single by senior Luke Walters chased junior Patrick McKay to third with none out. Kisseberth got a strikeout for the first out and Manchester coach Dave Beauchemin called for the squeeze, with senior A.J. Ramirez dropping down the successful bunt to score McKay.

No. 5 Donovan Catholic 3, Point Boro 2 (9 Innings)

Junior shortstop Joe Maier drew the fourth of four straight walks in the bottom of the ninth, forcing home the winning run and giving the Griffins an opening-day win over the Panthers.

Point Boro starting pitcher Bryson Kirby gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run to centerfield in the top of the fourth, but Donovan Catholic answered with two of its own in the bottom of the inning to even the score. Junior Dave Yorke singled in senior Gavin Degnan and scored on the back-end of a double-steal with runners on first and third.

Point Boro prevented further damage by Donovan Catholic in the fourth thanks to left-fielder Shane Ryan, who fielded a single by Griffins junior catcher Hunter Johnson and threw out sophomore Tyler Levine attempting to score from second base.

Panthers junior catcher Wyatt Dewysockie hung in to field Ryan's throw and apply the tag -- one of several crucial plays in the game by the Point Boro backstop. Dewysockie threw out 4-of-5 Donovan Catholic players attempting to steal and made a back-handed pick of a pitch in the dirt with Degnan on third base in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Senior John Grana earned the win with a scoreless ninth that included a pair of strikeouts -- one of which came after he issued a two-out walk for the only baserunner of the inning. Junior left-hander Jake Marciano struck out six in three scoreless innings in relief of left-handed starter Shaun O'Keefe, who had a run of five straight strikeouts to highlight his eight-strikeout performance.
