Hammerhead Shark Surfaces Off Jersey Coast

OCEARCH, the same group that tracks Mary Lee the great white, tagged a 7-foot,100-pound hammerhead shark. Elias pinged off the coast of Point Pleasant, Mantoloking, Belmar and Asbury Park.

The shark "pinged" just miles off the coast in Belmar at 7:22am Sunday. Before Belmar, Elias was hanging around Point Pleasant Beach and just south of Mantoloking on Saturday. Elias swam into shallow waters around Asbury Park on Monday.

Elias was first tagged on July 17 in Montauk, NY, and has traveled 424 miles in waters according to OCEARCH.
