A caller who saw something, said something at church on Sunday morning in Waretown.

Police were called to the Warertown United Methodist Church for a report of a possible grenade being placed in the donation box.

The caller reported finding a grenade in the area of the church and police say he then placed it in the donation box because he thought it was a toy.

In response police began an evacuation of the area and started an investigation.

With the assistance of the Ocean Township Police Department Criminal Investigations Divosion, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad Unit officers were able to determine the “grenade” in question was an actual toy and the area was determined to be safe.
