Eagles Releasing Anthony Harris, Trade for Gardner-Johnson

The Eagles have made a big move on Tuesday, releasing starting safety Anthony Harris, per ESPN Adam Schefter.

Harris is the second veteran safety to be released by the team in the last 24 hours, joining Jaquiski Tartt, who was released on Monday.

So what's the plan at safety?

Well the team has made a trade, adding Chauncey Gardner-Johnson from the Saints, who has 31 career starts. Last season with the Saints, he made 46 tackles with two sacks and three interceptions.

The team also currently has presumed starter Marcus Epps, along with former fourth-round pick K'Von Wallace, undrafted rookie free agent Reed Blankenship, Andre Chachere and Josiah Scott who was moved from slot corner to safety during training camp.

It appears that the team will go with Epps and Gardner-Johnson, who is a 24-year in the final year of his contract that will play him $2.54 million this season.

He was a fourth-round pick by New Orleans in the 2019 draft out of Florida.

Look for the team to be active in either the trade market, where Jalen Reagor is available, and once teams make their final cuts to get down to the mandatory 53-man limit, today by 4 p.m.
