Dollar General Announces Designated ‘Senior Hours’
Following in the footsteps of Stop & Shop, Dollar General announced they would designate the first hour of each day for seniors.
The statement officially says
Dollar General is strongly encouraging that the first hour of operations each day be dedicated solely for the shopping needs of senior customers ... Other customers are encouraged to plan their shopping trips around this window of time to allow the most susceptible customers in our communities the ability to shop during the first hour that stores are open.
Well, I do find it interesting that this is just "encouraged" and not mandatory. I would hope that non-seniors would respect the rule, but we've seen plenty of examples of people at the beach or at the bars or whatever, so maybe a bouncer outside Dollar General checking IDs and booting underage customers is needed. And honestly, seeing a bouncer at Dollar General would be the sort of hilarity we all need.
Dollar General also announced they would be closing stores an hour early to let employees clean and restock.
