Despite Loss, Plenty to Cheer About
The dream has ended for the Toms River Little League All-Stars but the Mapletree Road gang did not go down easy.
Toms River scored three runs in the bottom of the 6th and had the tying run on 2nd before falling to Newark, Delaware in the semifinals of the Mid-Atlantic Region in Bristol, Connecticut.
Held to just two hits and trailing 4-0 coming into their final at-bat, TR rallied with Connor Cino doubling in a pair of runs and Christian Wood adding a run-scoring single to make it 4-3. With two runners on base, Kayla Roncin grounded out to 2nd base to end the game and summer for the 13 players and three coaches.
Despite the loss, the team gave the town and shore area plenty to cheer about over the past few weeks and now they can begin their summer vacation….less than a month before the school year begins.
