Delran NJ Native Carli Lloyd Going for More Soccer Gold in Tokyo

South Jersey's own Carli Lloyd has been selected to join the U.S. Women's Olympic Soccer Team, ready to make her state and country proud (again!) by bringing home more gold.

I cannot wait to watch Carli compete in Tokyo in a few weeks. The fact that the Delran native was selected for to join the team coming off knee surgery (and at 38-years-old; she'll turn 39 just before the Olympic games get underway) makes it even more exciting.

Not only is Lloyd a World Cup champ in soccer, but she's helped her women's team win Olympic gold in 2008 and 2012. At the Beijing Games in '08, Lloyd scored the overtime goal that gave the U.S. the win over Brazil and the gold medal, 6abc.com reports. During the London 2012 Games, she scored both goals in the gold-medal final against Japan.

The global COVID-19 pandemic that forced the rescheduling of the 2020 Summer Olympics provided the soccer star with the opportunity to have her knee operated on and time to recovery and work her way back to fightin' form. Had the Olympics taken place in Tokyo last summer as planned, Lloyd probably wouldn't have been able to participate.
