Could Chris Christie Replace Mike Francesa?
Mike Francesa is probably the most love-hated person in the world of sports talk. Whether he's berating callers, sucking up to guests, falling asleep on-air, or supporting King George, people just go nuts over the guy.
Mike's contract runs out at the end of this year, and people are already tossing around rumored replacements. One name that seems to have some weight behind it is Chris Christie.
Christie already has radio experience with his monthly Ask the Governor show that airs on the Hawk. He also has sports talk experience, with numerous appearances on the Boomer & Carton Show. He already proved he can alienate an entire team, fan base, and city, so maybe he's not the worst choice. The key to that style of radio isn't to be the most knowledgeable, but really to be the loudest and most outrageous. Christie has plenty of experience being a blowhard, so a sports talk gig might just be the perfect spot for him to land.
I really only became a Francesa "fan" when his show started on the YES Network, and I mostly just used him as background noise in the afternoon. Once YES dropped him, I didn't follow him to FS1. The Michael Kay Show was fine until Rosenberg arrived, so I've pretty much given up on sports talk radio as a whole at this point. I can see the reasoning behind Christie being the replacement, but I sure as hell can't see myself listening.
