Brick man faces seven years in prison for drug, gun possession

A Brick man is facing nearly a decade in prison for possession of drugs with intent to distribute, certain person not to possess a firearm as well as other offenses.

Ocean County First Assistant Prosecutor Michael Nolan, Jr. announced Tuesday that Jahmal Jones, 34, pled guilty and the State will be seeking seven years in New Jersey State Prison with a forty-two month period of parole ineligibility relative to the narcotics charge and five years NJSP with no parole eligibility as to the firearms charge.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Jones was charged following an investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force between July and August of 2018.

During that time Detectives executed search warrants at Jones’ residence and vehicle and seized a significant amount of Marijuana, drug paraphernalia indicative of distribution purposes, $3,800 in cash and a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber handgun.

Jones also pled guilty on Tuesday to two unrelated indictments charging him with Possession of more than One Ounce of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute and these charges were from two separate arrests, both in January of 2019 by Barnegat Police's Crime Reduction Unit and Lakewood Police's Street Crimes Unit.

The State will be recommending three years NJSP as to each charge, with all sentences to run concurrently.
