The noise level rises this week during training exercises near Naval Weapons Station Earle, and there'll be some accents of light as well.

Harbor protection exercises take Wednesday and Thursday, off the pier in Leonardo.

Marked Navy harbor patrol vessels and sentry towers will be equipped with blank ammunition and laser-designating devices in Sandy Hook Bay, near the base's restricted waterfront zone.

The pyrotechnics will be most noticeable to folks in Leonardo, Atlantic Highlands, Belford, Middletown and Sandy Hook National Park, officials said.

Navy officials seek to reassure residents and passers-by that they're not responding to a threat. The maneuvers measure readiness.
