Bills BBQ Shack In Bayville, NJ Known For Amazing Food Is Going To Auction
Do you remember Bills BBQ Shack in Bayville?
I only remember it as it is now; a closed-up restaurant off route 9 in Bayville, but I wish I knew this place in its heyday.
It seemed like such a cool spot with delicious wings, ribs, and mac and cheese that was somewhat legendary.
I think the big question on a lot of people's minds is what's next for the place.
The former BBQ joint sits on a good plot of land, and it's right on a heavily traveled road which could bring in a lot of hungry guests.
We may be closer to an answer.
I just happened to be driving down route 9 the other day through Bayville and past the site of Bills BBQ, and noticed a sign hanging up front, and decided I had to investigate further.
I hadn't seen this sign in the past couple of weeks so something was going down.
I pulled into the parking lot and saw that Bills BBQ was getting ready for a public auction.
At first, I assumed this meant that the land and the building were being auctioned off, but that wasn't quite the case.
I was approached by a woman in a minivan who asked if I was there about the auction, and I told her I was mainly being nosey.
Turns out she was the owner's wife and was incredibly friendly.
She told me that the building and land had been bought, but that the new owner didn't buy the liquor license.
Because of this, everything in the building had to go.
So now, it was time to sell off everything inside the building.
To my surprise, she said to go in and take a look around at some of the stuff.
Inside the building, I met Mike, the head honcho of Bill's.
He said the restaurant business was tough, and now it's time to get rid of everything inside, and there was some really cool stuff in there!
They were bringing some stuff up from the basement that looked like it belonged in a museum, not a restaurant; phones from the early 1900s, old photos of rail stations around New Jersey, and old trunks.
The auction is being held this Thursday (9/29), and there's a lot of cool stuff from restaurant equipment, to cool beer signs, to some really eclectic stuff!
