Regardless of what you call them; subs, heroes, hoagies, grinders, gyros, or sandwiches, there's no doubt that the best are from New Jersey.

Personally, I say hoagie but I know a few people who will die on the 'sub' hill.

Either way, it's hard to go too far without running into a place selling some classic New Jersey hoagies.

Even on the short ride I take from Seaside Heights to Toms River each day for work I pass five delis, all of which sell amazing sandwiches.

That's not counting all of the restaurants and sandwich shops I pass on 37!

Of course, one place has to be better than every else right?

That's what the people at Foodies First thought too, and set out to answer the age-old question; what is the best sandwich in each state, and who makes the best?

They ranked not only the best sandwich in each state but also where to get it and it's an impressive list.

Before we get to New Jersey, let's take a look at the best sandwiches in New York and Pennsylvania.

New York's number one sandwich was the Pastrami on Rye, and if you're looking to take the train to the Big Apple to get one, you'll have to go to Katz's for the best.

Pennsylvania of course is the Cheesesteak.

Foodies First says the best place to get one is John's Roast Pork, I'm a big fan of Delassandro's.

And according to Foodies First, it needs to have the following ingredients: red vinegar, oregano, prosciutto, capicola, salami, provolone, tomato, onion, lettuce, and a hot cherry pepper hoagie spread.

Sounds delicious!

Foodies First says the best place to get an Italian Sub in New Jersey is Cosmo's Italian Salumeria in Hackensack.
