The TSA Issues A Grave Warning About Using Airport USB Chargers

USB ports are pretty commonplace in airports nowadays; those little plugs built into the wall, or under seats in terminals that you can plug your phone directly into and grab a quick charge while you wait for your flight.

A few months ago, when my wife and I were traveling to San Antonio for a little getaway, I was that guy who had to find a seat in the terminal in Newark with one of these USB chargers because I never have a fully charged phone.

The TSA is now warning that we should never trust these USB chargers that we find in airports and other public places.

Viral TikTok Raises Awareness Of TSA's USB Warning

A TikTok posted by user HappilyEverHousers breaks down the grave warning that was recently issued by TSA agents.

Apparently, when using the USB ports found in airports, you open yourself up to the risk of your personal information getting stolen thanks to malware that hackers can install into these USB ports.

It's called Juice Jacking, and information like passwords can be stolen as well as other very personal information.

How To Safely Charge Your Devices While Traveling

There are several ways to safely charge your devices while your traveling.

Use your own charging brick
Bring a TSA-approved portable power bank
Avoid plugging direclty into public USB ports to charge devices

It's just one more thing to remember and worry about while traveling, but it's a warning that should be heeded, as the last thing any of us wants is for our data to be stolen.
