Forget sports legends or music icons.

These men were the real thing, and may we always remember brave firefighters like them who selflessly risked everything to protect others.

Nineteen firefighters, including 18 from the elite Granite Mountain Hotshots of Prescott, Arizona, were killed Sunday fighting a wildfire in Yarnell, Arizona, about 80 miles northwest of Phoenix, according to indystar.com.

“We are devastated. We just lost 19 of the finest people you will ever meet,” Prescott Fire Chief Dan Fraijo said Sunday night. “We’re going through a terrible crisis right now.”

May their souls rest in peace and may their friends and family, and the entire community, find comfort in knowing those men died heroes, showing others what is the very best of mankind's nature.
