‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,’ the fourth movie in the popular franchise, ruled the box office with an iron hand last week. With a $31.2 million haul over the New Year’s holiday, Tom Cruise and company again reigned supreme.

‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’ brought in $22 million to hold onto its runner-up status for the second week in a row, and ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked’ also repeated its third-place finish with $18.2 million in ticket sales.

‘War Horse’ and ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ rounded out the top five, bringing in $16.9 million and $16.3 million, respectively.
